Radiofrequency (RF)

What does RF treat?

RF microneedling uses fine needles to deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin. The depth and settings depend on the device and your treatment plan.

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Loose or crepey-looking skin
  • Uneven skin texture and enlarged pores
  • The appearance of acne, surgical, or injury scars
  • Selected areas of discoloration or stretch marks

These are potential treatment goals, not guaranteed outcomes. Device indications and suitability vary.

Prior to Treatment:

Before scheduling, discuss your goals, medical history, skin conditions, medications, recent procedures, and any recent tanning or sun exposure with your provider. Suitability depends on the device and your individual health and skin.

  • Tell the clinician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection or cold sore, a tendency to raised scars, or take blood-thinning medication.
  • Arrive with the treatment area clean and follow the clinic’s instructions for skin care and sun exposure.
  • Do not stop prescribed or over-the-counter medication on your own. Ask your prescribing clinician and RF provider about any changes.

Treatment:

Your clinician cleans the treatment area and applies the RF device according to your plan. For RF microneedling, fine needles deliver radiofrequency energy at selected depths. Protective measures and comfort options depend on the device and treatment area. You may feel warmth, pressure, or brief discomfort; your clinician will explain the steps and risks before treatment.

After Treatment:

Follow the personalized aftercare directions provided by your clinician. Healing and downtime depend on the device, treatment depth, and individual response.

  • Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or pinpoint marks may occur; ask your provider what is expected and when to contact the clinic.
  • Keep the area clean and use only recommended skin-care products while it heals.
  • Protect treated skin from sun and ask when to resume makeup, active skin-care ingredients, exercise, and other activities.

RF results are:

  • May support a firmer, smoother look and improve the appearance of fine lines, texture, pores, and selected scars.
  • Collagen remodeling takes time, so visible changes may develop gradually over weeks to months.
  • Results vary by device, settings, treatment area, and individual response; outcomes are not guaranteed.

RF microneedling can cause serious complications, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement, and nerve damage. Discuss risks and alternatives with a licensed, trained clinician and ask which device will be used.

How many treatments do I need?

The number and spacing of sessions depend on your goals, the treatment area, the device, and your clinician’s assessment. Some people may be advised to have a series of treatments, while others may need a different plan. Your provider will discuss expected timing and maintenance at consultation.
